In its first electoral endorsement of 2023, the Troy Area Labor Council, AFL-CIO endorsed current Rensselaer County Legislator and past Troy City Council At-Large member Nina Nichols for Mayor of Troy. Nina Nichols is the endorsed Democrat and Working Families Party candidate for Troy Mayor.
“The Troy Area Labor Council stands with pro-worker candidates who share its commitment to support working families in Troy and across Rensselaer County,” said Sean Collins, Labor Council President and delegate from SEIU Local 200United. “Troy’s working families need a mayor who understands the importance of holding negligent landlords accountable and that vital infrastructure projects, such as replacing lead service lines and improving our streets and parks, are important opportunities to create good, union jobs for residents. We are proud to support Nina Nichols for mayor.”
On receiving the endorsement, Nichols said,“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the Troy Area Labor Council. Organized labor drives our economy and makes life better for the hard working families in our City. As Mayor, I will partner with organized labor and by working together, we will make Troy an even better place to live.”
Nichols is launching her mayoral campaign tonight, April 20, at 6:00PM with a rally and fundraiser at the Hangar on the Hudson (675 River St, Troy).
The Troy Area Labor Council will actively support its endorsed candidates for office and will mobilize, along with its affiliates, to share information on Nina Nichols and other pro-worker candidates with union members in Troy and across Rensselaer County. It will announce its other endorsed candidates, including for Troy City Council, later this spring.
